Weekly music classes are offered for children and youth in semesters during the Fall (September through December) and Spring (January through May). 8-week summer sessions and a variety of day camps take place in June, July and August.
Early Childhood Music Classes
Pre-Aspiring Musicians Program (ages 6-8)
Aspiring Musicians Program (AMP, ages 9-17)
Small group classes for strings, flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet/cornet, trombone, tuba, percussion, piano, guitar, percussion and vocals.
Youth Vocal Music
MSU Detroit Youth Band (concert band for ages 10-16, 1+ years' experience)
Flute, clarinet, bass clarinet, oboe, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, baritone saxophone, trumpet/cornet, French horn, trombone, baritone, tuba, and percussion.
Spartan Youth Jazz Orchestra (for middle school youth with 1+ years' experience)
Saxophone, trumpet, trombone, drumset, guitar and piano. Non-traditional instruments are welcome. Please send short audition video (phone video, a brief example of skill level) to cmsd@msu.edu or call (313) 578-9716 for more information.
Spartan Youth Jazz (for high school youth, ages 13-19) **Auditions are required**

Verses Project: Exploring Literacy through Lyrics and Song (ages 10-16)
For students who play instruments or sing, as well as those with no prior musical experience. Free by application.
