Spartan Youth Jazz: The Roots of Jazz

Led by jazz artists, educators, and MSU College of Music alumni, Tim Blackmon and Chris Glassman, Community Music School-Detroit (CMS-D) presents Spartan Youth Jazz (SYJ): The Roots of Jazz. The SYJ summer camp will be held online and focus on the evolution of jazz and its impact on music and culture. Celebrating the legacy of jazz through its rich history, lessons will also linclude swing style and transcription.
Camp is open to intermediate and advanced student musicians ages 12 to 18 who play saxophone, trumpet, trombone, piano, guitar, bass, and drums. Other non-traditional jazz instruments are also welcome!
