Angel Hernandez

Percussion

Angel Hernandez is a multi-faceted percussionist specializing in Afro-Latin music. He is currently
pursuing his master’s degree in Percussion Performance at Michigan State University under the
direction of Dr. Jon Weber, Professor Gwendolyn Dease, and Professor Kevin-Dalton Jones. He
currently holds a bachelor’s degree in Percussion Performance from Michigan State University
as well.

Angel’s involvement in music is one of variety. He always strives to be a well-rounded musician
and prides himself in having multiple experiences in different parts of the musical space. He has
performed with various groups such as the MSU Wind Symphony, MSU Salsa Verde, Orquesta
Ritmo, MSU Drumline, MSU African Diaspora Ensemble, LanSINGout Men’s Chorus, and more.
In addition to accepting a Graduate Assistant position at MSU teaching a beginning handdrumming class, Angel finds himself in other teaching opportunities as well. These involvements
include teaching at local high school band camps, coaching the percussion section of the MSU
Spartan Youth Wind Symphony, assisting in leading a drum circle for the AARP of Michigan,
along with private lessons.

Angel is active in the Lansing/East Lansing and Grand Rapids area and is always looking to
contribute to music in any way he can.
