Tom Jones

Director of New Horizons (Orchestra, Jazz Band) and Spartan Youth Jazz

Tom Jones is originally from Martin, Tennessee, receiving a B.A. in Music Education from the
University of Tennessee at Martin. Attended MSU and received a M.Music in Applied Saxophone. He
taught in the Lansing School District for a total of 41 years, teaching grades K-12. He taught
Band,Choir,Orchestra, Honors AP Theory, Electronic Music Composition and Class Piano. He
also served as District Music Coordinator and Focus Teacher for the Fine Arts Magnet Program
at Everett High School. Tom was also director of the LSD/Mid Michigan Honors Jazz Band
program.Tom also taught as a adjunct professor at the Michigan Fine Arts Institute, Novi
Campus, teaching in the “Audio Engineering” program. 


Tom has performed professionally since 1974 with many professional ensembles and artist. He
has performed with Motown artist- The Temptations, Four Tops, Martha Reeves, Aretha
Franklin. Professional Big Bands—The Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra, The Harry James Orchestra,
Stan Kenton Orchestra, The Couriers Big Band. Pattie Page, Hal Linden, Bob Hope, The
Lennon Sisters, Frankie Valli, The Pied Pipers.


Tom presently serves as Minister of Music at Redeemer Church, head audio engineer at Tracks
Studio of Lansing and Director of Jazz Bands and Orchestra at the MSU Community School of
Music.
