Tyson Haynes

Saxophone, Jazz Saxophone, New Horizons Adult Beginning Jazz Bands

Born and raised in Portland, Oregon, Tyson Haynes has established himself as an innovative educator, musician, and composer. After receiving his Bachelor of Music in Jazz at the University of Oregon, Tyson earned his Master of Music Degree in Jazz at the University of Northern Colorado. At the University of Northern Colorado, Tyson studied and performed with Dick Oatts, Andrew Dahlke, Erik Applegate, Jim White, and David Caffey.

As a performer, he has appeared on stage with many groups, including the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, National Repertory Orchestra, Breckenridge Music Festival Orchestra, Confluence Saxophone Quartet, and others. He previously served as Saxophone Instructor at Colorado Christian University and Director of Bands at Englewood Middle School, where his bands continually received the highest ratings and honors at local festivals and competitions, including Mile High Jazz Festival, Colorado Bandmasters Association, and Colorado Activities Association. In addition to teaching, Tyson founded the highly successful Englewood Jazz Camp and established a lesson scholarship program in Englewood, CO to fund private lessons for low income students. Tyson’s private students have gone on to pursue professional music careers and continue study in higher education.

Tyson lives in Lansing, MI, and is actively engaged in the Michigan music scene.
