Calvin Dugan is a percussion instructor at the Michigan State University Community Music School, as well as the director of percussion at both Okemos and East Lansing High Schools. He is also a freelance performer, arranger, and adjudicator.
Calvin holds a bachelor’s and master’s degrees in music performance from the University of Kansas where he studied with Ji Hye Jung and Kevin Bobo.
He has performed with Fountain City Brass Band, including their tour of England, Ireland and Scotland. He can be heard on recordings by Fountain City as well as the KU Wind Ensemble.
As a founding member of the Kansas City Chiefs Rumble Drumline Mr. Dugan performed alongside the Kansas City Symphony, in numerous community outreach performances, and for full NFL stadiums each Sunday.
Prior to his time in Michigan, Calvin taught percussion in Kansas and Missouri. Ensembles under his direction have performed at PAS days of percussion, state music educator conferences, and at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention. He is an active designer and clinician for marching bands throughout the midwest.
