Kristin Bayer was born and raised near Minneapolis, Minnesota. She then moved to Rochester, NY to study the saxophone at Eastman School of Music. In 2007, Kristin earned her Bachelor of Music degree in applied (classical) saxophone along with a Performer’s Certificate, recognizing outstanding performance ability.
Kristin was the soprano saxophonist in the award-winning quartet ViM, receiving first place in the Music Teacher’s National Association chamber music competition as well as the gold medal at Fischoff’s chamber music competition at Notre Dame, IN. She has performed at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC and Carnegie Hall in New York City.
Kristin is on the faculty at Michigan State University's Community Music School. She also spent several years serving as the classical saxophone instructor and quartet director at Eastman’s Community Music School in Rochester, NY. Her students have participated in all-county and all-state bands and several have moved on to study saxophone at institutions such as the Eastman and Hartt Music Schools.
Kristin currently lives north of Lansing with her husband, Tim, and their four children.
