Marissa Olin

Flute

Marissa Olin is Instructor of Flute at Spring Arbor University, Kellogg Community College, and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in Michigan. She also teaches privately at the Michigan State University Community Music School, Jackson Symphony Orchestra Community Music School, and is an adjudicator for the MSBOA Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association. 

She is a member of the West Michigan Symphony (Second Flute) and has performed with the Kalamazoo, Lansing, Battle Creek, Jackson, and Traverse Symphony Orchestras, in addition to being placed on the sub list for the New World Symphony. She has also performed at the National Flute Association Convention and at Carnegie Hall, as well as throughout North America, Central America, Europe, and Asia. Her chamber music performances have been featured on Naxos and Albany records. 

She currently plays in a flute/clarinet duo with Dr. Jonathan Holden, faculty at Florida State University. They have performed recitals at universities throughout Michigan, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and Texas, and they will be performing at the 2016 International Clarinet Association ClarinetFest in Kansas. 

Dr. Olin has presented flute master classes at University of Oklahoma, University of Central Oklahoma, Central Michigan University, and University of Texas Rio Grande Valley - Edinburg. As a 2011 finalist for the Fulbright grant to the Netherlands, Dr. Olin actively pursues research on Dutch Romantic flute music. Dedicated to new music collaboration, she has performed numerous premieres, participated in commissioning consortiums, and is a founding member of the ConTempus Contemporary Music Ensemble. 

Most recently, Dr. Olin has been published in The Flutist Quarterly as a reviewer for the National Flute Association Newly Published Music Competition. Her awards in performance include winner of the Upper Midwest Flute Association Laudie Porter Competition, winner of the Michigan State University Concerto Competition, and prizewinner of the WAMSO Minnesota Orchestra Young Artist Competition. 

Dr. Olin received degrees from Michigan State University (D.M.A. and M.M.) and the Lawrence University Conservatory of Music (B.M.), with additional study in Vienna, Austria.
