Shin-Yi (Rita) Chen, originally from Taoyuan, Taiwan, recently graduated and received her Master of Music Therapy in December 2021 at Texas Woman’s University in Denton, TX, with her professional paper “Music Therapy in Mental Health Settings Under Taiwanese Culture: A Philosophical Inquiry”, which she also presented online at the poster session of 2021 AMTA conference. Rita obtained her bachelor’s degree in Psychology at National Chung Cheng University in Chiayi, Taiwan. Rita has taken piano lessons since she was six and played bass guitar in high school rock band. Rita always enjoys connecting with people through/in music. She also enjoys baking and outdoor activities such as kayaking during her free time.
Rita completed her six-month internship at Hillcroft Services, Inc. in Muncie, IN. This internship offered opportunities to work with individuals with developmental disabilities of all ages and with comorbidity of mental health issues. Rita has worked with older adults in memory care, children with special needs, and children who experience abuse and trauma during her practicum in Texas. Rita also has worked with individuals with mental illness and their family in Taiwan.
