Zimo Chen was born in Hefei, China. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, where she also pursued a second major in Vocal Performance. She later obtained her Master’s degree in Vocal Performance in June 2024 from the same school. Since 2021, she has been a member of the Shanghai Youth Opera Troupe and entered the young artist program at the Shangyin Opera House. She is currently enrolled in the Doctoral studies in Voice at the Michigan State University College of Music, she trains with mezzo-soprano, Professor Jane Bunnell, with full scholarship and teaching assistantship.
She played Fanny in Rossini’s La Cambiale di Matrimonio in MSU Opera Theatre, sung the soprano solo with MSU Symphony Orchestra in Handel’s Messiah. She will perform Elle in Poulenc’s opera La Voix Humaine and participate in upcoming MSU’s productions.
In 2022, she won third prize at the 3rd Chinese Art Song International Vocal Competition and a gold award with her collaborative pianist at the Prokofiev International Music Competition. In 2023, She qualified for the main event of the 9th Mt. Fuji International Opera Competition of Shizuoka in Japan. In 2025, she won the first prize in the Chinese region of the Klaudia Taev International Opera Singer Competition in Estonia.
