Rong Nie (she/her) is currently a PhD student in Music Education and a graduate assistant at Michigan State University. Before coming to MSU, she worked at Sichuan Conservatory of Music for seven years, teaching undergraduate courses in creative music pedagogy, Kodály methodology, piano instruction, and early childhood music education. She has more than ten years of experience teaching music in early childhood and kindergarten settings. At the affiliated kindergarten of Sichuan Conservatory of Music, she developed and implemented an early childhood music curriculum, with an emphasis on singing, movement, creative music-making, and developmentally responsive musical experiences.
Rong earned master’s degrees from Sichuan Conservatory of Music and a Diploma in Music Education from the Kodály Institute of the Liszt Academy in Hungary. She also studied and participated in music education programs in Hungary and Germany, where she gained experience with a variety of approaches to music teaching and learning that continue to shape her teaching.
Her professional experience also includes supervising student internships, organizing teacher training programs for rural educators, and coordinating international masterclasses. Her research interests include early childhood music education, localized teaching strategies, educational equity, and supporting music teachers and learners in underserved communities.
