Phoenix Miranda is a classically trained vocalist and educator from Prince George’s County, Maryland. She earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Voice Performance from Michigan State University (MSU), where she studied with critically acclaimed baritone, Mark Rucker.
During her time at MSU, Miranda brought her vibrant flair to soprano roles including Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Nanetta in Verdi’s Falstaff, Desirée in Sondheim’s A Little Night Music, and Serpetta in Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera with the MSU Opera Theatre. Under the mentorship of Grammy Award–winning vocalist, Carmen Bradford, and internationally renowned musicians and educators, Rodney Whitaker and Michael Dease, Miranda also shared soulful melodies in the MSU Federal Credit Union Jazz Artist in Residence Series Jazz Orchestra concerts, Swing Dance concerts, and Nonet concerts. As a soloist, she regularly performed for the William G. Anderson Slavery to Freedom: An American Odyssey Lecture Series, which featured prominent guest speakers including MC Lyte and Angela Davis. Miranda frequently shared her talents at university celebrations, fundraisers, sporting events, and community gatherings across Michigan.
During her graduate studies, Miranda served as a traveling performer and panelist within MSU’s Vocal Outreach Program, where she encouraged Midwest-based high school students to pursue music at the collegiate level while sharing insights from her own artistic journey. She received the Claire S. Mackey Award for excellence in performance, teaching, and community service, recognizing her leadership with MSU Color Me Music and her work as a graduate teaching assistant and vocal instructor.
As a cross-genre performing artist, Miranda continues voice teaching and works to help her students explore their unique vocal instruments, discover their artistry, and overcome fear—, all
while fostering holistic wellness and integrity on and beyond the stage.
