Yu-Chen Lin is a Doctor of Musical Arts candidate in Cello Performance at Michigan State University, where she is also completing a Certification in College Teaching. Originally from Taiwan, she earned first prize at the National Taiwan Music Student Competition in 2019, which led to her long-term sponsorship by the Hsing Tian Kong Foundation’s Talented Arts Program in Taiwan.
In addition to her solo performances, Yu-Chen is a devoted chamber musician and ensemble collaborator. She is the founder of the Novak Trio, which received third prize at the 2023 Barbara Wagner Chamber Music Competition. Her quartet, the Red Cedar String Quartet, served as quartet-in-residence at the Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp in the summer of 2025 and appeared as guest artists at the White Lake Chamber Music Festival. The group is currently active with upcoming recording and new music projects. Yu-Chen also performs as a member of the Traverse City Philharmonic.
As an educator, Yu-Chen is a certified Suzuki teacher with over a decade of experience. She previously served as a Graduate Assistant at Michigan State University, teaching cello lessons and string methods courses. Her teaching experience includes orchestra sectionals for the Mid-Michigan Youth Symphony, Okemos High School, and the Grand Rapids Youth Symphony, as well as instruction for the FIM Summer Chamber Camp and FIM Philharmonic string sectionals.
Yu-Chen is also an active leader in the music education community. Beginning in fall 2024, she serves on the Advisory Committee of the American String Teachers Association (ASTA). Additionally, she relaunched and currently serves as President of the ASTA Michigan State University Chapter (Spartan Chapter), fostering connection and professional development among her peers.
