The MSU Community Music School-East Lansing:
Who We Are and What We Do

In 1993, the Michigan State University Community Music School (CMS) in East Lansing, was established as the outreach division of the MSU College of Music and designed to bring music education and music therapy to individuals of all ages and abilities in the Greater Lansing community.

For the past 26 years, the Community Music School has done just that - and with great success. CMS has proven through its programming and services that music can dramatically enhance a person's quality of life. On average, CMS annually serves over 3,000 individuals within the community through classes, lessons, and ensembles; while also working with youth, adults, and individuals with special needs within the Greater Lansing area through various outreach programs.

Additionally, CMS works with families and students with financial need to offer financial assistance so that cost does not become a barrier to pursuing music and experiencing the invaluable benefits.
