Guitar Ensemble

The Guitar Ensemble is an outreach/student-bodied acoustic guitar (both nylon and steel strings) ensemble, directed by CMS instructor, Dr. Yoshi Fukagawa

This is not your traditional classical/concert guitar ensemble, but rather a group of experienced players that performs all different kinds of music on guitar. The ensemble's mission is not only to reach the community through music but also to stretch outside the stereotypical expectation of a typical guitar ensemble.

What to Know Before You Join!

  • Be open-minded and ready to learn different genres of music - this group will play all different kinds of music on the guitar.

  • This ensemble is designed for experienced guitar players. Each ensemble member should be able to read sheet music in (1) standard music notation, (2) chords with designated rhythms, AND/OR (3) TAB with designated rhythms. It is expected that members regularly practice the assigned music and are prepared for the weekly rehearsals.

There will be several performance opportunities both inside and outside the CMS facility as a part of MSU College of Music and/or Community Music School outreach program. The material prepared in rehearsals will be for these public performances.
